Kay Taylor

Kay Taylor is the person who leads the current ‘BellyDance Now’ team.  Kay pulls the team together and keeps everyone on track.

Kay Taylor has been studying Belly Dance since the 1980’s.  It has become a passion, some would say an obsession!
Kay has taken her inspiration from many sources but the live music and the dancers in Cairo are what feeds her passion.
Kay completed the original JWAAD Teaching Diploma in 1992 and felt it made her a much better, more informed and knowledgeable teacher.  It also provided her with a network of fellow teachers who she still works with on a regular basis.  Having benefitted so much herself, Kay is delighted to be involved in developing JWAAD which is currently in the process of becoming ‘BellyDance Now’.

Kay bas built up both a national and international profile as a teacher and performer.  She has taught and performed at most of the major UK festivals:  Fantasia, JoY, Belly Dance Congress, GFAD, several of the Bellydance Superstar festivals and her own events.
Internationally, Kay has taught and performed in:  Egypt, Japan, Greece, Tunisia and Morocco.

Kay was a principle dancer with the Tarab Dance Company and was instrumental in taking the show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival twice.
Kay now has her own dance company ‘Helwa’.  Kay is director and choreographer for Helwa Dance Company.  Kay formed Helwa as a development vehicle for her students.  Several of the members have become experienced soloists in their own right.  Others are newer to the company.
Their new show, ‘Belly Dance:  A True Story’ is about Kays belly dance journey.  Kay narrates and tells entertaining anecdotes, the girls bring aspects of the journey to life through dance.  They take this to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018.
Kay has run several performance projects around the UK which culminate in shows.  Some she has taught herself, others she has invited choreographers to takes part including Josephine Wise, Yasmina of Cairo and Sara Farouk.

Kay believes everyone should develop their own individual dance style and their own teaching style.  Around this there is a body of technique, an awareness of postural alignment …. and of course understanding of the music and culture …. and your own artistic interpretation.

Cairo has always been and continues to be Kays source of inspiration so she loves taking dancers to Cairo, showing them the sights, taking them costume shopping – and of course to see a whole range of dance shows.  You can find out more about Kays dance holidays on the Farida Adventures web site.

Kay also runs the very successful ‘Farida Dance’, importing and selling a range of fabulous belly dance wear – and organising residential courses in the UK.
