Claire Barnfather
Weekly classes: Gateshead, Jesmond, West Moor. Claire began belly dancing in 1999 and has been teaching since 2003, both regular classes in the North East and workshops further afield. Claire is known for her approachable but thorough teaching style and way of breaking material down in new and novel ways. Claire also has an uncanny ability to unlock dancers’ unique potential, enabling them to get the best out of their bodies and develop their own styles. This is something that Claire focuses on when teaching private lessons and her Summer Performance Projects. As a dancer, she is known for her musicality and the expression she pours into her dance – something that comes from her love of Arabic music, which she strives to share with her students. Until 2014, Claire was Artistic Director of the Tarab Dance Company. She was the inaugural Chair and a driving force behind the establishment of the JTA, and became chair once again in 2015. She is passionate about being the best teacher she can and sharing the joy of dancing with her students.
