Folklore option single room
18 – 22nd August 2024
At our week long summer school, we have different options. You can sign up for this 4 day option and join in any of the workshops on our summer school timetable or sign up for our certified Folklore course with Abeer Will. When you book we will email you to ask which option you want.
This option is suitable for dancers of all levels. It includes 3 days of classes with our folklore expert Abeer Will. She trained with a folklore group in Egypt at university and has gone on to make it her speciality. If you are interested in exploring Egyptian folklore, this is for you.
Arrive Sunday 18th August, depart Thursday 22nd August 2024.
4 days – all accommodation and meals provided. All tuition (over 40 hours of classes to choose from), shows and party nights included. This is great value at only £625 in a single room.
It includes 40 hours of classes to choose from – from fun and quirky options to those that challenge and inform. Classes with live music, amazing teachers and a theatre show with the option to perform. This will really make a difference to your dance. Expect to go home inspired! This option doesn’t not include the project with Julia Farid but it does include options at all levels. Our classes with live music are taught by Yasmina of Cairo who has a wealth of knowledge and years of experience performing with bands in Cairo.
Folklore course with Abeer Will: This includes an introduction to styles of folklore within Egypt with an in depth focus on Alexandrian Melaya. Background, history, technique and choreography. Introduction to Sawahel coastal dances, Saidi, Nile Delta Ghawazee and Upper Egypt Ghawazee, Falahi, Baladi, Nubian, Bedouin & Hagalla. To achieve the certification at the end of this folklore course, you need to have attended all sessions. and complete our on line ‘Folklore Legacy’ course. If possible please complete this before this course at summer school starts. We offer a 50% discount on the online course if you are signing up to Summer school.
